Let me tell you about a special friend in my life…
Nedra ("Sissie") my beautiful sister, less than two years older than I, and taken from us so soon at the age of 29, leaves fond memories of the path we shared. We sang duets of the hymn, "All things are ready, come to the feast…" with Nedra singing the alto. We joined the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church at the same time and when we were still quite young a photographer took our picture, which wasn't very good of me! When I went away to ENC generous Nedra gave me a beautiful winter coat with velvet trim. She was so creative. For speech class she wrote a story—so good the teacher thought she copied it from somewhere! When most kids were lugging books home, Nedra was empty-handed, but maintained good grades. She was bright and beautiful and left a big empty space in our family. Nedra Marie—my sister, my friend.
This particular entry is quite important to me. Aunt Nedra is the only sibling of my grandma that I didn't have the privilege of meeting. She isn't often talked about, so this glimpse into who she was and how special she was to my grandma means the world to me.
