Would you like to know how I came to have faith in God? Let me tell you my story.
As a child I attended Sunday School on Sunday mornings and the Junior Missionary meetings in the evening at the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church with my sisters. We had dedicated teachers whom I still remember and appreciate. My sister Nedra and I were baptized there and I recall attending a revival service in that church. Even during those early days the Holy Spirit dealt with my young heart. When we moved to another section in town I occasionally attended Sunday School at LaCroft Church of the Nazarene. Then one Wednesday evening your aunt Sara and I decided we would go to prayer meeting, only to find prayer meeting was cancelled that night. Revival meetings were being held that week with Rev. Harold Willis and his wife, Mae. At the close of the service that Wednesday, when the altar call was given, I went forward. I didn't know much about what was going on, but I know one thing: from that point on my life was headed in the right direction because Jesus died on the cross that I might have forgiveness of sins. He is so good and has never failed me!
When you have quiet time with God, here are some things you can do:
1. Choose a Bible verse, meditate on it, memorize it.
2. Read the 23rd psalm, substituting your name for each personal pronoun.
3. Write a letter to God regarding a problem in your life.
4. Pray for each member of your family.
Here's an example of how I find a time and place to rest:
As a teenager, I remember "getting alone with God" on a Sunday afternoon by going to a certain spot in a pasture behind our house. With just God's creation surrounding me and feeling His Presence near, I could pour out my deepest concerns to my Heavenly Father who loved me and cared about my inmost desires. How comforting to know His Presence in Blessed Quietness!
